The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is one of the world’s leading engineering institution with over 158,000 members in 153 countries. It is also the most multidisciplinary – to reflect the increasingly diverse nature of engineering in the 21st century. The IET is working to engineer a better world by inspiring, informing and influencing our members, engineers and technicians, and all those who are touched by, or touch, the work of engineers.

The IET has established nine sectors: Built Environment, Design and Manufacturing, Digital, Education and Skills, Energy, Engineering Safety, Healthcare, Innovation and Transport to produce thought leadership, to raise the profile of the IET and to enhance the relevance of the institution around core issues, themes and technologies. The expertise of IET members play a vital role in the IET’s engagement with industry and government, advancing engineering for the benefit of society.

Celebrating Our Anniversary Year

Although the world has changed since those Victorian days, one thing that still connects us with our history is that engineers continue to solve many of the challenges facing communities across the globe – making an ongoing difference to the world around us.

Many people still don’t understand the work of engineers, or appreciate how much society depends on their skills and innovation to improve our world and make it more sustainable.

Our 150th anniversary gives us a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our rich history. We also want to use it to engage and inspire young people so that engineering and technology are seen as a force for good and key to solving many of the biggest challenges facing our world.

We have planned a range of fun and creative activities for the year, which we hope will be the start of an ongoing conversation about the significant positive impact engineers are having, and will continue to have, on our world. Please join us in celebrating not only the engineering and technology achievements of the past 150 years, but also our ambition to inspire the next generation of engineers and technicians and deliver our mission; working to engineer a better world.

IET Hong Kong is the largest local network outside the UK with 5,000 members in Hong Kong and Macau. To promote the values of the IET, viz, Integrity, Excellence and Teamwork, the Section Committees periodically organise flagship events such as ICT Conference, Management Symposium, Manufacturing Forum, Power Symposium, International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management (APSCOM), Wireless Symposium, International Conference on Railway Engineering (ICRE), Young Professionals Exhibition & Competition (YPEC), and other continuing professional development (CPD) activities to meet the needs of members. Each activitiy provides not only a platform for sharing of knowledge and experience but also an opportunity for networking. To facilitate the delivery of knowledge services to members, IET Hong Kong fosters good relation and jointly organises CPD activities with other professional institutions.
